“Nobody should underestimate the cost and sacrifice of Rwanda’s Liberators”, Amb Mujawamariya
Celebrations to mark the 21st anniversary of Rwanda’s liberation took place on Friday 10th July in Moscow, the Russian Federation.
Rwandans living in Moscow, Embassy staff, Diplomats and their families, students and friends of Rwanda got together to celebrate Kwibohora21 in a colorful evening in the premises of the Rwanda Embassy to mark the day under the theme: “Prosperity in Dignity”.
Opening the reception party, Ambasador Jeanne d’Arc Mujawamariya thanked invitees to the reception to celebrate 21st anniversary of Rwanda’s liberation. She stressed that Rwandans decided to liberate their country against former regime that was denying Rwandans’ fundamental rights through discrimination, sectarianism and exclusion and all forms of very bad governance.
Courageous Rwandans from exile took arms and sacrificed their lives to liberate Rwandans and to achieve tremendous development through unity and reconciliation, education and health that we are currently enjoying. Nobody should undermine the cost and sacrifice of Rwanda’s Liberators.
Ambassador Mujawamariya stressed that Rwandans will keep struggling for their dignity and prosperity and will strive to achieve socio-economic welfare while preventing all that would undermine their rights. She called upon everyone to effectively and efficiently perform their duties from their workplace and so contribute to Rwanda’s development agenda.
Invitees were joyful to follow HE President’s speech on Kwibohora 21 with special attention to his advice to Rwandans to secure and sustain achievements so far reached and struggle for dignity since there are still backward thinkers with bad intention of reversing the achievements.
Attendees reflected on Rwanda’s liberation journey and celebrated the remarkable progress the country has recorded in the last 21 years; emphasizing the country's journey toward unity and reconciliation and economic development.
In her remarks, Rwanda’s ambassador to the Russian Federation Dr Jeanne d’Arc Mujawamariya applauded the members of Rwanda Patriotic Front for their patriotism and sacrifices that halted the Genocide and liberated Rwanda from decade’s long ethnic-based politics. She reminded Rwandans to reflect on the wide dimension of liberation in order to ‘cherish, safeguard and preserve its legacy for centuries to come.’
She thanked Rwanda’s allies for their contributions to the country’s liberation struggle and reconstruction efforts. Mujawamariya called on Rwandans and friends of Rwanda to continue working together as a way to achieve lasting prosperity and reaffirmed government's commitment to building a more united, peaceful and prosperous future. Rwandans and friends concluded the celebration with traditional dancing.
